Amelia is a former Virginia Beach Councilwoman and the Founder & Chairman of the Virginia African American Cultural Center. She chairs the Mayor’s Inclusion Diversity, Equity and Accessibility and is also an Appointee by Governor Northam to the Hampton Roads Transit Commission. Amelia retired from Norfolk State University as Distinguished Professor Emerita. Under her leadership and vision, the City Council of Virginia Beach gifted 4.83 acres to build the future Virginia African American Cultural Center. Amelia is the past President of the Virginia Beach Beautification Commission, Secretary for the ViBe Creative District, and a member of the Virginia College Affordability Policy Council.
